Going indie with their books is something a lot of authors are doing today. While it’s awesome that you get to keep all of the profits with an indie book, much of getting an indie book out there is the marketing. That’s true of any book. But with an indie book, you have to do a lot of it yourself or outsource some or all of the work. Outsourcing can get expensive, so let’s focus on the things you can do yourself to successfully market your indie book.

Great Teaser

Just like with anything you market, a great teaser is what gets people to pay attention to your book and hopefully consider buying it. You don’t need to stick to one teaser, either. Different teasers of various lengths can be used in different ways to successfully market a book. These can be used when sharing on social media, for the description in various marketplaces, to guest post on blogs, and more.

To be blunt – Just what the fuck is that?

Probably every list you’ve ever read on how to sell more books lists the title of this article as either step 1 or step 2, and it’s a big load of youknowwhat! There is no definitive way to know what books will sell 10 million copies in 24 hours, unless that person happens to be a well-known celebrity or other famous-type person.

You know why?

You are not the best judge when it comes to determining how amazing your book is. In fact, what you think of your books doesn’t even matter in the long term. The only thing that matters is what your readers think of your book. Everything else is irrelevant.

As an author, you’ve probably heard that the best way to reach your core audience is with an email list, and I will admit, this is a good way to keep your dedicated followers and readers up-to-date. With that being said, once you start one, you could end up being regarded as junk by the recipient if you go about this the wrong way. This is especially true when a website signs you up for the email list automatically while you are doing something else, like making a purchase or signing up for an account, so that you can read all the super-informative, special articles that aren’t available to people just browsing through. The good news is that you can avoid these pitfalls by being mindful.
