Benton Docks was born in 1974 in Sarasota, Florida to Diane and John Docks. He was immediately integrated into the family business. By the time he was six, he was trading toy guns and fake drugs for lunch money, which earned him more time in the principal’s office than in the classroom. When he started telling fake hardship stories to his classmates in an effort to get more money, his parents decided homeschooling would be best for him. However, they also recognized that he had a gift for convincing anyone of anything.
By the time he was 10, his parents and his uncle were convinced he could sell ice to Eskimos and fish to fisherman and make money at it. Rather than funneling them into their drug and weapons trade, they opened a new department at The Company – grifting. Benton was a millionaire by the time he was 16.
Unfortunately, he had a reason for earning all that money. His adopted cousin, Avia, was a raging drug addict and not nearly as financially well-off as he was. To keep her off the streets, he supplied most of her money, but her addictions were taxing, even on his finances, and his scams took him away from her for long periods of time.
At the same time, he was starting to rack up the criminal charges. In 1989, he was arrested for driving without a licensed adult in the car. In 1990, the SPD got him again on possession of marijuana. In 1991, he was arrested for possession with intent to sell. In reality, he had Avia’s heroin on him, but he took the blame for it. In 1992, he was arrested for extortion. In 1993, he was arrested with Avia for solicitation of a prostitute. In 1994, he was slammed face down on the sidewalk for extortion and weapons and drug trafficking. If L hadn’t taken steps to have the case declared as a mistrial, Benton would have spent decades in prison.
Under threat from his uncle, Benton was forced to clean himself up. In 1995, much to Avia’s disapproval, he married Stephanie Jones. She was a long-term family friend, and it was a loveless marriage. In 1999, Benton shot her in the back of the head after a heated argument where he was accused of having an affair and betrayal of The Company. He spent three years in prison for manslaughter and was released in 2003. While he was in prison, he had Avia sent to rehab. In 2005, Benton is back to his old ways. Stealing money from rich women, extortion and part time weapons and drug runner.
